Mark 2:1-12

Study Questions

Describe the scene of Mark 2:1-2. What does it tell you about Jesus and His ministry at that time?

Read Mark 2:3-12. Clearly this paralytic man and his friends desperately wanted him to be healed of his paralysis. Do you think there’s anything wrong with that desire? Why or why not? How can we as Christ followers care for others’ needs while still pointing them to their need of Christ’s eternal forgiveness?

What was the significance of Jesus’ words in verse 10? (See also Daniel 7:13-14.) Why did Jesus refer to Himself as the ‘Son of Man’? How is that title different from ‘Son of God’ (Mark 1:1)? (See also Hebrews 2:9-10;14-17.)

Do you believe that the greatest need we all have is to be forgiven of our sin? Why or why not? (See also Romans 6:23; 5:8.)

As you think about the challenges and problems in the world right now, how might the teaching of this passage equip you to respond to those facing struggles? In other words, how can you be a true friend this week by caring and leading others in your life to see their need for Jesus?

(Extra Credit) If you haven’t already, begin to write down your testimony of salvation (when you came to trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of salvation). Try to keep it under 500 words. Don’t forget to “draw forward” the following: the holiness of God, admittance of your sins, why Jesus died and rose again for you, and when you repented and followed Christ.)
