Study Questions

1.    Read through the EFCA Statement of Faith Article #2, below. This article focuses on the Bible:

“We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.”

2.    What does it mean that the Bible is verbally inspired? (See 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Hebrews 1:1-2.)

3.    What does it mean that we believe the Bible is without error in the original writings? (See Proverbs 30:5.)

4.    What defense can you give supporting the authenticity of Scripture? How do you explain this to a friend who is critical of the Bible? (See 1 Peter 3:13-16.)

5.    What is meant by the statement, “... [the Bible is] the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged”? (See Psalm 12:6; 119:160; Matthew 24:35; 1 Timothy 3:14-17.)
