Join Us in West Virginia!
In 2006, Sparta Church sent out a mission team to minister to the people of Webster County, West Virginia for the first time. For almost 20 years, we have returned to Webster Springs each July to serve the community. Whether through sports camps, repairing homes, or spending time with the residents of the local Senior Center, we desire to build relationships and share the love of Jesus. Through the years the ministry done in West Virginia has impacted many people – those in West Virginia and also our own team members.

Ministries You Can Serve In:
Basketball & Soccer Camps
Each morning, we run basketball camps going for children in K-8th grade. In the afternoons, we partner with some local leaders to run kids soccer camps. In the evenings, we have an open gym where we have the opportunity to shoot hoops and build relationships with older kids and their parents.
Construction Projects
Through the years we have done various projects including: building whole houses, replacing old trailers with newer ones, replacing roofs, doors, windows, bathrooms, installing electrical wiring, plumbing, house siding and sheet-rock, to name a few. It is a wonderful way to be the arms and feet (and sweat) of Jesus. With the poverty in Appalachia, the needs are great. Money is scarce for taking care of personal living conditions. Very few have insurance to help with any natural disasters of which there were many recently. We are still reviewing projects to work on this year. This ministry is open to anyone willing to serve whether you are a skilled tradesperson or not.
Outreach
The Outreach Ministry is tailored according to the gifts of those serving on that year’s mission trip. We have worked with the local elementary school to help with a reading program, distributed a reading program for illiterate adults, done health programs at a Senior Center and the school and distributed care packages for flood victims to name a few. A key goal of this ministry is to show support, both physical and spiritual, to the families whose homes we are improving through our construction ministry.
Community Picnic
On Thursday night, we host a picnic for the entire town. We provide food, music, games, fun and fellowship. If the pool is available, we rent it for all to enjoy. We also try to meet spiritual needs by having a prayer tent. For those new friends we have met through basketball or other ministries, it gives us a chance to deepen our relationships with them. It also gives us a chance to catch up with old friends. Many hands are needed to help in this ministry.
