Step One: Realize that you are a sinner.
Even on our very best days, we fall short of being perfect. Sin separates us from a holy God, and His perfect standard of righteousness. Romans 3:10 says, “None is righteous, no not one.” It is only through Jesus Christ that we can have a restored relationship with God.
Step Two: Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
The Bible tells us that the penalty for sin is death. Because we are sinners, we deserve that, but in His grace, Jesus suffered death in our place so that we can be forgiven by God. Romans 5:8 says, “God shows His great love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This is the Good News of the Gospel, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we didn’t deserve it at all so that we can be saved!
Step Three: Repent of your sin and go the other way.
Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out”. The word repent means to change our direction in life. When we confess our sin and repent of it, we stop running away from God and instead run toward Him, knowing that we need His grace and forgiveness in our lives.
Step Four: Receive Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Becoming a Christian is more than a religion, or simply checking the box of going to church. It means that Jesus Christ is taking residence in your heart and guiding your life. The Bible tells us, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among mankind by which we must be saved.”…” If you want a relationship with Jesus Christ, pray the following prayer in your heart. It’s not about any special words or saying the right thing, it’s surrendering your heart and life before Jesus.
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to You. You are my personal Lord and Savior, and you are the King over all. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen."
