2. Whenever God’s people are about His work, opposition seems to rise up to defeat and de-rail the work. Read Nehemiah 4:1-8. Why were Sandballat and Tobiah seeking to discourage the rebuilding of the wall? What made them so angry toward Nehemiah and God’s people?

4. When we do the Lord’s work, what kind of adversity or opposition may we face? See: John 15:19-20; 1 Peter 4:12-14.

5. Read Nehemiah 4:9-23. Identify four ways that Nehemiah responded to his opposition and how he walked God’s people through that opposition. Identify when he offered instruction from that of encouragement and why?

6. Every person was ready for battle – they had their swords, spears and other weapons ready beside them. How can you better equip yourself for the inevitable spiritual battles you will face as a follower of Christ? See: Ephesians 6:11-18; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Colossians 3:1-4.
