Study Questions
Malachi 3:8-12

1. Have you ever had something stolen from you? How did it make you feel? What were your feelings toward the person who stole from you?

2. Read Malachi 3:8-12. What does this passage reveal about the heart of God? If God doesn’t really need our money, then why is He so adamant about His tithe?

3. Identify God’s warning and curse in Malachi 3:8-12 and compare that with His invitation and His blessing.

4. Are we as Christ-followers expected to tithe/give according to the New Testament? (See 1 Corinthians 16:1-2, Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-37, Matthew 6:19-21, 2 Corinthians 9:6, and Acts 11:27-30.)

5. What would your response be to someone who said “I can’t afford to tithe”? Why?

6. Discuss the invitation and the blessing found in verses 10-12. Why do you think the Lord wants to bless us so abundantly? (Hint: the answer is in verse 12.)

7. Identify the dangers of the teachings of ‘Prosperity Gospel’ (otherwise known as The Word of Faith Movement) which teaches that God rewards increases in faith with increases in health and/or wealth. 8. How has this passage motivated you to examine your obedience regarding your regular offerings to the Lord? Will you trust Him with a regular tithe/offering commitment?
