1. What is the best way to identify the literary genre of a book of the Bible? Why is it important to do so?
2. Read the following passages and identify their literary genre from the list below:
Proverbs 26:4-5; Exodus 20:1-17; Galatians 5:16-26; Acts 9:1-9; Luke 16:19-31. [historical narrative | law | poetry | prophecy | epistle]
3. Look at Isaiah 5:1-7. How does knowing the literary genre and understanding the historical setting better help determine an accurate interpretation of the text?
4. Identify scripture passages that you know of where a metaphor or simile is used to describe something. Also, identify at least one passage where hyperbole is used.
5. Read Psalm 119:105. Identify the literary style of this verse and then decide how the meaning of the passage will impact the way you live out this week.
