Study Questions

Revelation 19:11-20:6

1.    Read verses 11-16 in Revelation chapter 19, which describes John’s first of three visions in this chapter. Identify the names given to the Lord Jesus. Describe what they each represent, and then the significance, of those names. (Read Psalm 29:2.) How can you take comfort in His name(s)?

2.    What do we learn about the Lord Jesus Christ as John describes His features in this passage?

3.    Read Isaiah 63:1-6. Now see Revelation 19:14, which describes armies which are in heaven that are clothed with fine linen, white and clean; and yet, Christ has blood on His robe. What is the significance of this blood?

4.    Read verses 17-18, John’s second vision. Who are the enemies who will rise up before Jerusalem in that day? What will be their outcome? See also Revelation 16:14 and 16, Joel 3:11-17, and Zachariah 14:1-5.

5.    In John’s third vision (verses 19-21), how are the following passages in the Bible ultimately fulfilled: Psalm 110:1; Acts 2:34-36; 1 Corinthians 15:25; Hebrews 10:12-13? Who will be sealed in the abyss, and for how long? What does this teach us about Satan’s power against God?

6.    Read Revelation 20:1-6. After His return, how long will the Lord Jesus Christ reign on the earth? How will life be different in those days from the time prior to Christ’s return? How will they be similar?

7.    According to verses 5 and 6, who are the ‘rest of the dead’ and what does the first resurrection refer to? Who are those who remain in the abyss until the 1000-year reign is over?

8.    Jesus Christ’s second return is not to be confused with the rapture where Jesus will gather all of His saints in the air with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). The second coming of Christ will include the judgement that is absent in the rapture. In what ways can this truth shape your heart and draw you to a deeper trust in the Lord this week?

9.    How has the resurrection of Jesus changed the way you live and talk with others? How does the second coming of Christ change the way you live and talk with others? Is it the same or different? Why?
