1. Read 2 Corinthians 5:10 and Romans 14:10-12. Describe the image these passages teach. Who are those present?
2. Describe what the purpose was of the Bema Seat in sports in ancient times? Why does the Apostle Paul use this word? What is the purpose of this ‘judgement’?
3. What differences do you see between this judgement and the judgement of the Great White Throne described in Revelation 20:11-15?
4. How can a follower of Jesus Christ be comforted by this judgement seat rather than be fearful? (See Romans 8:1; John 10:28-29; Romans 8:38-39.)
5. Read 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. Randy Alcorn describes the Bema Seat of Christ as having ‘consequences without condemnation’. What are the consequences a believer may face? On the other hand, what will be the rewards believers may receive from Jesus? (See also Psalm 62:12; Jeremiah 17:10; Matthew 16:27; 25:20-21; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 9:25-27; 2 Timothy 4:8; 1 Peter 5:1-4.)
6. What would be a wrong motivation as you consider how you invest in the Kingdom of God? What is a right motivation? Read 2 Corinthians 5:9.
7. Describe what ‘wood, hay or straw’ and ‘gold, silver, and precious stones’ represent in a believer’s life? Practically speaking, what does this look like in your life?
