Ephesians 5:15-21

Study Questions

1.     Read Ephesians 5:15-21. What different actions are commanded of us in these verses? What theme emerges? 

2.     How are wisdom and foolishness contrasted? How would these qualities each be seen in a person’s life? 

3.     If someone who was not a Christian asked you to explain the phrase, “be filled with the Spirit,” what would you say? How would you support your explanation? (See also Ephesians 1:13-14; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 6:11.)

4.     Describe in your own words, ‘dissipation’ or ’debauchery’. Give an example of what that looks like and leads to. (See also Rev. 17:1-2; 1 Peter 4:3)

5.     How would you describe the relationships in a community where people submitted to each other out of respect for Christ (v.21)? How is that different from the world around us? 

6.     How important is it to encourage each other with ‘songs and hymns’?

7.     How can our church family better enact the exhortations in this passage? What part will you play in that? 

8.     How do you personally feel God calling you to “be filled with the Spirit”? What will that look like for you? What will you do? How can your life group or others partner with you and pray for you in this?
