1. Read Isaiah 61:1-3. What do we learn about the Lord through this prophecy? Regarding Israel? Regarding you?
2. Read Joshua 2. Who is Rahab and how does she enter the narrative? Why do you think God highlights people with messy pasts in Scripture?
3. How do you see Rahab as a woman of faith in God? List specific professions and actions she took that reveal her faith. What was the earthly reward of her faith? (See Joshua 6.)
4. Read the following New Testament passages and discuss how Rahab went from a life of ashes to a life of hope and beauty. (See Hebrews 11:31; James 2:18; 25-26.)
5. How do you think Rahab was able to oversee her past? What options did she have? How does your past (or the way others see you) impact your belief about how God can use you today?
6. Why did Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-3 in the synagogue (Luke 4:16-21)? How did His life, death and resurrection fulfill that prophecy? What does that mean to you?
7. In what ways was Rahab’s experience of salvation similar to yours? From what were we saved and what marks us as belonging to God?
