Study Questions
Hosea 1:1-11

1. Read Hosea 1:1-11. What catches your attention the most in this first chapter of the Book of Hosea?

2. What was God’s reasoning for instructing Hosea to marry Gomer? What do you think Hosea’s hope was starting off in marriage with his beloved bride? What does this literal analogy teach us about God’s love and covenant with His people?

3. Read verse 2. How were God’s people unfaithful in their covenant with Him? Define in your own words the meaning of idolatry. See also: Exodus 20:1-6

4. What are the meanings of the names of Hosea’s 3 children: Jezreel, Lo-ruhamah, and Lo-ammi? Why did the Lord tell Hosea to give them these names? What does this tell you about the Lord’s heart?

5. Read verses 10-11. What message is the Lord giving to His people? What do we learn about the holiness of God? What do we also learn about His grace, mercy and promises from this study? How do you see this applied in the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

6. Describe a time when your spouse or someone else extended grace and mercy to you. Did you deserve it? What did you do to restore that relationship?

7. How will this study better help you rest in God’s grace, as well as encourage you to live in obedience and faith in Him?
