Hosea 11:10-11
Study Questions

1. Generally speaking, when you think of the term “restoration” what comes to your mind? What does the process look like? Is it always necessary? Why?

2. Read Hosea 11:10-11. Who are the people from ‘the west’? Is this prophecy referring to the Messianic Reign, the restoration of the nation of Israel, or both? (See also Amos 9:14-15; Ezekiel 36:24-28; Acts 3:18-21; Revelation 21:3.)

3. Read Acts 3:18-21 and discuss the two-fold promise of restoration; the ‘now’ and the ‘not yet’.

4. Why do both verse 10 and verse 11 say that they will come “trembling?” What does this communicate about people returning to the Lord? Explain a time when you trembled before the Lord. Was it a healthy or unhealthy fear? Compare and discuss Proverbs 1:7 and Psalm 111:10 with 1 John 4:18 in reference to fearing
the Lord.

5. In verse 10, what is the meaning behind the phrase “He will roar like a lion”? What attribute(s) of God does this communicate?

6. For you, what’s the hardest thing about restoration in a relationship after you’ve been hurt or wronged?

7. What does restoration following repentance look like between the Lord and His people? (See David’s example in: Psalm 51:1-13.) How has this been evidenced in your relationship with the Lord?

8. What part(s) does the Lord Jesus expect from us in restoring our relationship with Him? (See Psalm 27:4; John 21:15-17; Philippians 3:12-14.) Think of a relationship that God is calling you to restore in your life (or an area of your relationship with Him that needs addressing) and commit now to take action this
week. Read Hosea 6:1-2 aloud together in closing.

"Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He
has wounded us, but He will bandage us. He will revive us after two days; He will
raise us up on the third day, that we may live before Him.”
