Study Questions

1. Betrayal is a strong word. Have you ever regretted betraying someone even if you didn’t intend to? If so, how?

2. Identify in your own words the similarities between Judas and Peter? What were the things they had in common? What things they shared together?

3. Discuss the prophetic words of Jesus regarding Judas’ and Peter’s betrayal of Him in John 13:18-38. How do you think Peter (and the disciples) felt when Jesus predicted Judas’ betrayal? How does that help you better understand Peter’s response to Jesus in verses 31-38?

4. Read John 18:1-27. Compare both Judas’ betrayal of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane with Peter’s denial of Christ 3 times in the courtyard of the High Priest. What was different about them?

5. We learn a lot about Judas and Peter by how they reacted after their betrayal of Christ Jesus. Read the following passages and identify the differences:
Matthew 27:3-5; John 21:14-17; Acts 2:14.

6. Without the atonement of Christ, there’s a Judas in all of us(Jeremiah 17:9; Psalm 143:2; Micah 7:2-4). What must you do in order to be released from that? John 8:24; James 1:22; 2:18).

7. There’s also a little bit of Peter in all of us too! What can you do in order to be restored back into healthy fellowship with God? Romans 10:9; Mark 9:23-24; James 1:22; John 21:14-17.
