Hebrews 4:14-5:14

1. What is the chief role and responsibility of the high priest? (Hebrews 5:3). What does he do on behalf of the people? Why does he do it on behalf of himself as well?

2. How does one get chosen to be high priest (5:1,4)? Are there any examples in the Bible of priests that men chose/appointed, but whom God rejected? Why? (See 1 Samuel 2:34-35.)

3. Read Hebrews 5:5-11. How was Jesus chosen to be our High Priest? What role does He have within the Godhead? (See also 1 John 2:1.)

4. Read Hebrews 4:14-16. Describe how Jesus can be God the Son, and our High Priest, at the same time. How important is it to you that Jesus understands your temptation and He can sympathize with your weaknesses? Why?

5. How does/should this understanding of Christ as your High Priest affect the choices you make daily?

6. Read Hebrews 5:11-14. Give examples of teachings in the Bible that are more like ‘solid food’ compared to ‘milk’? What is the difference? What practical value is there in training yourself in biblical knowledge? (See verse 14.)

7. What do you need to do in order to eat more spiritual ‘solid food’ as opposed to only ‘milk’?
