Philippians 1:12-20


1. Read Philippians 1:12-20. Describe the various circumstances that the Apostle Paul is describingto the Christians in Philippi. What surprises you about Paul’s response to his various circumstances? How else could Paul have reacted to them?

2. What perspective made it possible for Paul to rejoice? What biblical truth are we learning through Paul’s example?


3. Why is our ability to rejoice so dependent upon our faith that God is in control and working even in the midst of difficulty? What must you believe in order to be able to rejoice in the midst of your problems?

4. Identify the characteristics you see consistently in Paul’s life that allowed him to genuinely rejoice in the Lord in the face of adversity?

5. What hardships have you faced in the past? How did you handle them?


6. Looking back now, how did God use those hardships in your life to further the gospel message to people around you?


7. What hardships are you facing now? How can Paul’s declaration that God is always moving in our difficulties change the focus of your prayers? How can it strengthen your tenacity to persevere? According to this passage, what must you do in order to find the joy that God promises?
