1. Read Philippians 1:1-11. Describe the relationship that the Apostle Paul had with the Christians in the church in Philippi. What made it so special?

2. How can we strive for that same relationship with one another in the local church today?

3. There is a unique dynamic in what Paul says in this passage. He speaks of the joy God gave him even though his circumstances found him in prison for preaching the gospel. What does this teach us about the joy of the Lord?

4. According to verse 6, what confidence can we have in the Lord? Why?

5. Read Paul’s prayer for the Philippians in verses 9-11. What is his longing? How do we grow toward this goal in the local church?

6. How does this prayer (verses 9-11) effectually bring about holy joy?

7. What is the Lord teaching you about the local church from this passage? And, how can you become less of a spectator and more of a participator in your church?
