1. Review: The last 2 weeks in our message series, “5 People Every Christian Needs”, we learned that everyone needs a Paul (mentor) and a Timothy (someone who you influence) in their lives to fulfill their God-given purpose. Discuss who is your ‘Paul’ and ‘Timothy’.
2. Read Acts 4:36-37. What do we learn about Barnabas in this passage?
3. Read Acts 9:22-31. What do we learn about Barnabas in this passage?
4. Read Acts 11:19-24. What does this passage teach us about Barnabas?
5. Read Acts 15:36-41. What do we learn about Barnabas in this passage? How was Barnabas a much-needed friend to Mark? What do you suppose Mark struggled with which caused him to abandon Paul and Barnabas on their journey (Acts 13:13)? How do you think Mark felt when Paul didn’t want to allow him to return and accompany them further on their journey? How did the Holy Spirit use Barnabas in Mark’s life?
6. Can you identify a Barnabas in your life? What characteristics/qualities do you think this person should have?
7. Why is it necessary for this ‘encourager’ to be a Christ follower? See also: 2 Corinthians 6:14-15.
8. Who can you turn to when you’re discouraged or feel defeated as a Christ-follower? If you can’t think of someone, what can you begin to do to seek out a ‘Barnabas’ who can be there to encourage you in your faith walk?
9. How is the Lord calling you to be a ‘Barnabas’ in someone else’s life? What does that look like? Will you pray for the Lord to guide you to that person?
