Ephesians 1:1-2
Study Questions
1. Who is the human author of Ephesians, and who was the audience? What is the historical setting of the letter, and why is this important for understanding the Scriptures?
2. Read Ephesians 1:1-2. Why does Paul reference himself as “an apostle of Christ Jesus,” and why does he add in his greeting, “by the will of God”? (See also: Acts 9:1-9; 22:6-11.)
3. What do you think Paul means by referring to the Christians in Ephesus as “faithful in Christ Jesus”?
4. Discuss what a faithful Christ-follower looks like to you. What does it mean for you to be faithful a) to Jesus b) to the Word of God c) to the Body of Christ d) in a missional mindset to those who don’t know Jesus yet? Which of these areas are most challenging for you?
5. Can a person look like a Christian and yet not be a true believer? Why/why not? Read Matthew 7:15-23. What is Jesus’ strong warning about false prophets? What evidence is apparent regarding those who are not true followers of Christ?
6. What excites you about studying Ephesians? Ask the Lord to quicken your heart with a hunger for His Word as we enter this new series.
Additional study:
1. Read the book of Ephesians to gain the flow of Paul’s entire letter in preparation for this message series.
2. In the same mindset, write out chapter one, and underline every phrase including “in Him.”
