Ephesians 1:3-6

Study Questions

1.    Read Ephesians 1:3-14. Identify every ‘In Him’/‘In Christ’ statement in this passage. Now look at verses 3-7; what do you learn about our heavenly Father? 

2.    Verse 3 mentions ‘every spiritual blessing’ which believers in Christ receive from the Father. Identify four of them in this passage.

3.    Read verses 4-5. What has the Father done for His children? What attribute(s) of God would you identify with this action? What is the motive behind His doing?

4.    Are you adopted, or do you know someone who is? What might you/they say about the significance of being adopted? Why does Scripture use adoption language to describe the believer’s hope in Christ? 

5.    Verse 6 speaks of the grace of the Father. What attribute of God is associated with this God’s grace? (*See resource note below for more information about the attributes of God.)

6.    According to verse 6, what union do we have in Christ? How? Why? (See John 17:23-26 to better understand the depth of this relationship!)

7.    How has this study helped you better understand the will of the Father? What comfort/hope does this bring you?
