1 Samuel 17
1. Read 1 Samuel 17:1-11. What was the threat facing God’s people? Humanly speaking, what were the odds of them being victorious over the enemy?
2. As you learn more about your God-given purpose, what are some of the ‘giants’ that are causing you to fear what God wants to accomplish through you? What doubts do you have that He can do it? What are some faith steps that the Lord is directing you toward? Is anything causing you to doubt or fear God’s strength to take them?
3. Read 1 Samuel 17:12-44. What can we learn from David’s response to the Philistines (Goliath)? What was it that made him so different from the rest of those in the Israelite army? 4. Why did God choose a young shepherd boy with no armor, no sword, and no experience in battle–just 5 smooth stones–to face Goliath? (See verse 26.) Do you believe the Lord will accomplish His purpose in your life like He did in David’s? Why/why not? (See Philippians 2:13.) What if the Lord hasn’t removed the hurdles that are keeping you from living out your kingdom passion victoriously? What would be some possible reasons?
5. Share an example of when you have seen the Lord’s victory in your life, or the life of someone you know, because of a situation requiring courageous faith. What was/is the purpose of God’s provision/rescue/victory? (See 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.)
6. How has this study equipped you to face the ‘faith obstacles’ in your life? How will you see the Lord more glorified in those victories?
