Ephesians 2:11-22

Study Questions

1.    Read Ephesians 2:11-13. What was the condition of the Gentiles before coming to faith in Christ Jesus? What is meant by ‘they were far off’? (See also Isaiah 57:19; Romans 2:14-15.) How are they ‘brought near’ to God?

2.    Read Ephesians 2:14-18. What is the message given to Jewish believers in Jesus?

3.    According to verse 14 and 15, what was the ‘dividing wall’ between Jews and Gentiles? How did God break down that wall? (See also Romans 7:4; 3:21-23; Galatians 3:28.) In what ways does the Church at large today create ‘walls’ (sociologically, religiously, etc.)? Given this principle, what warnings do we need to heed as a church family?

4.    How do we as a church body live out our mission to proclaim God’s love by the way we live in unity and community?

5.    Read Ephesians 2:19-22. What analogy is used to describe the Church? What are the necessary parts to this structure? Why are they important?

6.    What are ways that you remain focused on Christ as your Cornerstone and the Word of God (the apostles and prophets) as our foundation? How can you be an active part of “God’s building” this week in fellowship and mission?
