Hebrews 8:1-13

1. Describe various kinds of covenant vows/promises that you have made in your life. What makes them each different?

2. Read Hebrews 8:1-7. Identify the elements of the Old Covenant (Mosaic Covenant) mentioned. Identify how Jesus Christ fulfilled the requirements of the Old Covenant and its practices. (See also Hebrews 9:1-15.)

3. Read Jeremiah 31:31-34. What is the significance of the writer of Hebrews referencing Jeremiah’s prophecy in verses 8-12? What is the Lord’s covenant promise according to Jeremiah?

4. Read Hebrews 8:13. What does it mean that the first covenant has become ‘obsolete’? Is it insignificant for us as followers of Jesus today? Does the Levitical Law have any purpose for us today? (See: Galatians 2:16-21, 3:23-26; Romans 8:3-4; Ephesians 2:19-22.)

5. Has this study helped you build your confidence in what the Lord Jesus has accomplished for you? What needs to change in your heart/life in order to find ‘rest’ in His covenant promise to you?
