Haggai 1&2
Study Questions:

1. Describe a time when the Lord called you to participate in His plan, but it wasn’t on your radar at all. What was difficult about that season? What was the outcome? How do you see God’s faithfulness in that situation now?

2. Read Haggai 1:1-8. Why do you think God’s people didn’t want to rebuild the Temple? What was more important to them? What did God promise He would do if His people returned to rebuilding the Temple? (See Haggai 1:13-15.)

3. Read Haggai 2:1-3. Why, during the temple rebuilding, might those who had seen the temple in its former glory have been discouraged? Remember, these are the same people who were involved in the first rebuilding attempt that was halted. Look back at the emotions of God’s people during the first attempt to rebuild the temple in Ezra 3:8-13. Can you think of a time when you were discouraged and yet hopeful in the Lord at the same time?

4. Read Haggai 2:4-5. What does the Lord tell His people? What does that mean to you?

5. Read Haggai 2:6-9; focus on verse 8. What was the Lord about to do that the people were not able to do for themselves? How was the Lord going to provide for the temple? What does verse 8 teach us about God’s provision? What perspective does this give us about “our” resources?

6. How do you see this message of provision and hope fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

7. Focus on Haggai 2:9. According to this verse, what is the end goal? How will you adjust your priorities and plans this week in order to fulfill God’s goal in your life?
